For the seventh Rural Studies Kolloquium, we hosted an event at the “Schloss Hirschgarten” seminar house in Nassenerfurth near Borken (Northern Hesse). In a group of nine doctoral candidates, we exchanged ideas about our research on rural areas in a relaxed atmosphere. The Rural Studies Colloquium is a traveling, self-organized event with no fixed institutional affiliation. It was launched in 2021 by the Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries and is organized and passed on annually by doctoral students from various disciplines. For the first time, we took the colloquium “out into the countryside” ourselves and engaged intensively with the landscape and the people of the region. We were open to new encounters and stories.
