“Solidarities in the Indian Ocean Rim” explores how architecture and infrastructure became sites of connection and resistance across the Global South. From Afro-Asian technical exchange to feminist reappropriations of space, this symposium reveals how built environments across the Indian Ocean world forged alternative networks of South South cooperation that challenged Cold War binaries and colonial legacies.
Dr. Dhara Patel, Associate of the Research Training Group “Organizing Architectures”, will also take part in the first Roundtable discussion during the symposium.
The Roundtable “Architectures of Solidarity” (4:30–5:45 a.m.) brings together Anna Goodman, Arièle Krosnick, Valentina Rozas-Krause, and Dhara Patel to reflect on how solidarity is framed, spatialized, and practiced through architecture and infrastructure across the Global South.
It will be moderated by Ipek Türeli (McGill University) and Anoma Pieris (University of Melbourne).
The event will be in English.
Participation via Zoom is possible, please register here.
