Christian is a sociologist with an interest in the complex relations of social practice and its materialities. He studied at Goethe University Frankfurt and Universidad Complutense de Madrid and holds a PhD from Goethe University. His dissertation investigates the production of places of political practice in the capital cities of Berlin and Madrid, applying Bourdieu’s theory of political fields. Later, he served as a PI in a project critically examining evaluation concepts of urban development in secondary cities of the Global South (funded by the KFW Development Bank), and in a project on hybridity in infrastructure production in Ghana and Peru (funded by the DFG). He was a visiting scholar at Ponteficia Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima and a guest professor at Universidad San Martín de Porres in Arequipa. Christian works comparatively and investigates local knowledges of different actors, including their individual and often conflicting rationalities, to unveil inequalities caused by different forms of urban development.
