This article examines the Gudiashvili Historic Square in Georgia, analyzing the preservation and revitalization processes of the square and its surrounding architecture. It scrutinizes the involvement of various heritage conservation stakeholders and their evolving attitudes throughout different stages, highlighting the shift towards collaborative protection and renewal strategies. The fundamental aspects of historic square preservation and revitalization encompass heritage conservation, urban design, and community engagement, emphasizing the interaction among historical culture, urban environment, and local inhabitants. The study identifies two main threads: first, the preservation efforts by non-governmental organizations and citizens; second, the new government’s reassessment of the square’s heritage value. Through these narratives, the paper explores how the synergy among diverse stakeholders facilitates effective preservation and sustainable revitalization of urban historic squares. Ultimately, it concludes that the approach to preserving and renewing urban historic squares is transitioning from tangible to intangible dimensions, with shifts observed in stakeholder participation, heritage representation, and interdisciplinary integration.
