How is architecture visualized in the medium of the book, and how is architectural knowledge organized and conveyed through text and images? In this anthology, the authors explore these questions regarding (inter)mediality, the relationship between text and architectural representation, the visualization of knowledge, and the operational nature of images and books. The time span ranges from the early modern period to the 21st century, with a focus on works of architectural theory, ranging from treatises to textbooks. The relationship between manuscripts and printed books is also examined. In addition, an annotated photo spread featuring double-page spreads from selected architecture books illustrates these questions.
